Course Description
The content of this course should explain what it means to think strategically about a company’s situation and it should instruct the student in the formal tools and techniques of strategic analysis, crafting a strategy, and then implementing it successfully. The skills-building portion of the course, built around case analysis and management simulation exercises, drills students in the applications of key concepts and analytical tools, helps develop their strategic-thinking ability, forces them to exercise business judgment, and gives them some experiential contact with strategic decision-making. During the term, students learn the roles and tasks of the strategist, the ins and outs of crafting and executing a strategic plan, and how to automatically review a firm’s situation and re-appraise the need for strategy revision.
